The district is on the Andaman Sea coast. To the north of the district is Si Phang Nga National Park. The southern part of the district contains Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park, which includes the beach resorts of Khao Lak, devastated by the tsunami resulting from the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake.

Neighboring districts are Khura Buri to the north, Phanom of Surat Thani provinceKapong to the east, and Thai Mueang to the south.

? Takua Pa Old Town

“Ta Go La” is its old name, nowadays it has become Takua Pa Old Town which is a heritage from prosperity period of mining. It is trading center and loading point of goods to across Melayu cape from Andaman to gulf of Thailand in the past. The old town is beautiful according to the diversity of cultures that have been integrated properly until now such as buildings were constructed with Sino Portuguese style, Guan Yu Shrine.

It was constructed with a beautiful Chinese style and it is Vegetarian festival center of Takua Pa people, ancient wall subtended the governor’s house for the citizens to take refuge in the past. Both sides of the road are full of local’ shops which still inherit the traditional life of ancestors until now so Takua Pa Old Town has remained the charm of civilization from then until now. ? Petrol Boat 813 Tsunami Memorial Park

Memorial Park of the earthquake from Indonesia in 26 December, 2004 about Tsunami attacked many areas all over the region including Phang Nga province.

Petrol Boat 813 weights 60 tons which was wafted by Tsunami from a Khao Lak coastal operational point to a land near a hill, 1 kilometer far from the beach at the latest current point. When the circumstance is normal, the boat has been maintained as you see for memorial the losses of the victims and reminiscent to realize how violent force is from that event.

? Baan Nam Kem Tsunami Memorial Park

It is located at a coast, Baan Nam Kem, Tambon Bang Muang, 7 kilometers far from Ta Kua Pa. It has been constructed at a 5-Rai (8,000 square meters) area for reminding losses which caused by Tsunami attacked in 26 December. 2004 that make severe losses to Baan Nam

One side of retaining walls is curved likes waves, the black stones’ surfaces have an eyehole that can see damaged fishing boats from the event. Another side of the walls was made by bricklaying and ceramic tiles surround a brass plate of the names of victims from this event. There is Prince of Chumphon shrine which is worshiped by the local folks around there and there are restaurants also souvenir shop to serve.

 ? Khlong Sang Ne (Little Amazon)

A short canal flows from Klong Bang Tao headwater to converge with Ta Kua Pa River. The unique is a big hundred-year banyan forest along both sides with dense atmosphere like Amazon in South America so sometimes tourists called “Little Amazon”

The highlight of this place is a sightseeing boat to see a view of the canal. There are both services of engine boats and canoes. Seeing snakes coil around a branch is possible also seeing hornbills fly to seek a food, if you come in the morning.

? Khao Lak Beach

The world famous beach of Phang Nga has a length over 10

Kilometers with white sand. This beach is parallel with West Andaman Sea. It has many huge She-oak trees and lots of accommodations with shady and silent atmosphere for the tourists to select.

Next to the beach approach to a main city of Khao Lak which is surrounded with shops, restaurants, souvenir shops and entertainments at both side of the street to serve all tourists.

? Khaolak-Lumru National Park

The area is covered from Khuk Khak Sub-district, Takua Pa, Thai Muang, and Kapong District. It was announced to be the 66th Thai national park in 20th August 1991.

There are many interesting places inside Khao Lak-Lum Ru National Park such as Khao Lak beach, Petrol Boat a813 Tsunami Memorial Park, Ton Chong Fah waterfall, Sai Rung waterfall. 

? Laem Pakarang / Coral Cape

This cape is point to the sea, there is amazing white sand mixed with coral scraps such as staghorn coral, hump Coral on the sand. This was the origin of the name called Laem Pakarang. Attactive points of this cape are a peaceful atmosphere, beautiful view.

There is a view of Pak Weep Beach and Bang Sak beach at the north part. At the south, can see Khuk khak beach along with the cape which is a location of the Khao Lak-Lum Ru national park office. 10 Kilometers around this cape is a good bird watching point especially birds that live at the Southern beach of the cape which closed to Khuk khak beach.

? Bang Sak Beach

White sand beach is located at the northern part of Khao Lak – Lum Ru national park. It is beautiful long-curve clean beach which suitable for swimming because the beach is not much steep. The beach is widely covered by beach morning glories. Shady atmosphere from a lot of she oak trees along the beach is suitable for relaxation especially, having a picnic. There is a paved road at the end of the beach which is parallel with the beach that suitable for sightseeing riding.

? Ton Chong Fa Waterfall

Ton Chong Fa Waterfall features seven levels surrounded by a lush rainforest. This impressive waterfall is located in the area of Khao Lak-Lam Ru National Park. It has seven different levels. The 1st level is 50 meters high. The 2nd level is 40 meters high. The 3rd level is 50 meters high. These three levels have their own wide basins which are perfect for swimming. The 4th level is 200 meters high. The water in this level is flowing from a rough rock cliff which slopes at about 60 degrees.

Visitors can climb up to the 4th level during June to October as the waterfall is at its peak flow. From here, it takes 30 more minutes to reach the 5th level where the water flows from the 100-meter -high cliff surrounded by green nature and there are many trees growing in the high humidity environment. For the 6th and 7th levels, visitors have to trek up for about 3 hours to reach the waterfalls and an authority is required to be a guide there. Apart from enjoying clear and cool water at Ton Chong Fa Waterfall, you can also go trekking, bird watching and camping in this area. There is “Had Lek Nature Triai” which covers an approximate distance of 1.5 Kilometers. At the end of the path, you will find a small beautiful beach where you can swim, sun, stroll, or even camp on it.

? Pak Weep Beach

Pak Weep Beach, an over 10 km-long beach, is located at the northern area of Khao Lak. Bordered by a row of shady pine trees and a white sand stretch, it is a perfect place for you to enjoy swimming, resting, relaxing and spending time at this blissfully quiet beach. There are restaurants and massage services available right on the beach.

? Sai Rung Waterfall

A cascading beautiful waterfall originates from the upstream of an abundant mountain. The water flows down a 60-meter-high cliff all year round to a refreshing crystal clear pool below. This is a great place to swim, and it just takes only 30 meters to walk to the waterfall from the entrance. It is also surrounded by lush vegetation and refreshing clean air. This charming and the refreshingly cool spot will leave you impressed.

? Boon Sung Steel Bridge

A 200m-long iron bridge, made out of iron left from discharged mining ships, was built in 1968 allowing a shortcut to cross Ta Kua Pa River. It has two small lanes, just wide enough for two motorcycles going in the opposite direction. Boon Sung Steel Bridge is a landmark which is popular among tourists for taking photos since it is outstanding and unique and contrast with bright green pastures below. This iron bridge is like a symbol which can mirror the glory day of tin mining in Phang Nga in the past.
